Chapin Beta Club places at the State Convention

Chapin’s Beta Club returned from the annual state convention in Myrtle Beach with three first place awards. The Beta Club placed first in Advertising, Technology and Living Literature. The club also took home awards in Spelling, Math and Art.

Members of the Beta Club traveled to Myrtle Beach for the annual convention on Feb 10 and Feb. 11. The group of 16 students, sponsor Ms. Morgan competed in the events which also included Special Talent and a run for State Secretary by Clay Bellinger. Bellinger is the vice president of Chapin’s Beta Club.

The Living Literature competition featured a group of four students who recreated a scene fromĀ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.” The scene included a wardrobe, a lampost, a two-person sled and plenty of snow.

Katie Gandy competed in special talent for Chapin High singing of medley of songs including Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande and Stevie Wonder. She placed in the top 10 and performed during a morning session for the finals. “It was very nerve wracking but an amazing experience. I feel like it helped me progress my performance skills,”said Katie Gandy. “Beta Club as a whole was very fun and everyone should go.”

Members off the club will be competing at the National Convention this summer at Disney World.
