The growing popularity of podcasts and photography have swarmed Chapin High School as more students are starting to work with Mr. Speight, a marketing and multimedia teacher at Chapin, to create hype videos.
The photos and videos created by students are used primarily for sports and are often placed on Chapin High School’s social media accounts.
Students are creating a variety of videos consisting of short films and Chapin students doing a variety of different skits or activities. For example, one of the latest videos was created by Wyatt Zeck and Benson Lominack where they were testing different levels of hot sauce.
“I think it was a very fun experience it felt very professional, I would love to do activities like this again, I am so grateful for the opportunity,” said Wyatt Zeck, a senior, while filming his own short film–“Hot Ones.”
Along with videos, new episodes of Chapin High’s podcasts are growing in popularity. Chapin gained new podcast equipment 2 years ago, which led to students being able to create their own podcasts at school.
Mr. Speight allows students to use his classroom and podcast materials to explore their passions in media marketing and photography. The students are able to publish their creations to Chapin’s Instagram or social media accounts.
“Making videos and learning how to develop them is really fun. We have a lot of freedom with what we can create, and Mr. Speight does a really good job at teaching by also giving students the opportunities to learn for themselves,” said Weston Plotner, a junior.
“I feel like it gives students the chance to learn more about media, and advertising,” said Mr. Speight. He continued, new students are getting introduced to either photography, short films, or even podcasts helps spur creativity for the students along with helping them learn more about the subject.
Several students have pursued interests in photography and taking pictures of sports events, school pep rallies, and more due to its new addition of equipment.
