For the first time at Chapin High School, the freshmen participated in the financial literacy activity, known as “Mad City Money.”
Typically at Chapin, the seniors are the ones to do the financial activity in order to prepare seniors and show what their futures could look like. Within the activity, there were several stations, such as “My Children” and “My Entertainment” to help guide the students and lead the way for the freshmen.
Several of the freshmen had different opinions on this activity. Some said it was fun and interesting, along with the fact that they learned something from the activity. Meanwhile, others said that it was boring and did not feel that they had learned anything.
Tracie Werts and her apprentice, a worker with Founder, state that, “Two years ago we offered this workshop to seniors. At the conclusion of the workshop we received a lot of feedback from seniors in attendance that they wished this was offered as a freshmen.”
Our Chapin college counselor, Mrs. Hutt states that the reason why the financial activity was for the freshmen this year was because years ago previous seniors requested that it be for the freshman instead. Along with that, she talks about how this workshop allowed them to introduce a new idea of how to be financially responsible.
