In October many clubs including National Honors Society, Beta Club, Junior Civitans and others did a service event called Trick or Canning.
Members of clubs could bring in canned goods. According to an email release from Billie Williams, adviser of Chapin’s Student Government Association, Chapin High School donated 2,891 items to the local We Care Center.
“The shelves will be stocked full of soup, peanut butter, canned foods for the winter months,” said Ms. Williams. “We appreciate all the support. A big shout out to Dr. Taylor, and our National Honor Society members. NHS had the highest total of items, bringing in 1,069 items,” she added.
“I am really proud of the giving nature of all the students in the club, we are probably one of the biggest clubs in the school with over 400 members. They really did an awesome job bringing food and helping their community,” said Dr. Laurie Taylor, sponsor of the NHS.
“I think giving is good,” said Johnathan Fu who donated 30 cans to the club.
Items for Trick or Canning had to be brought in by October 29th to the Club sponsors.
Various school clubs were gathering cans leading up to the deadline on October 29th.
Mr. Johnson, sponsor of the Roblox club said, “We talked about doing this event to be a service club not just a club to get together.”
“It was a good turn out for donations. All of the clubs pitched in,” said Davis Ronthenberger, Vice President of Chapin Student Body.
