Students volunteer at Chapin High School’s BETA Club Blood drive to give blood to those in need. The program, which was held November 14 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, is an annual event at Chapin High. The blood donor program is beneficial for students to either volunteer to work and observe it or to sign up and donate.
“The Red Cross club has been something that we as a school have worked with since before I even came to Chapin,” said Ms. Smith, a Spanish teacher at Chapin who also sponsors the BETA Club. This year, the blood donation program was hosted in a mobile vehicle near the cafeteria parking lot.
“I think its both very beneficial and helpful for the students and with that the people in need,” said Ms. Smith.
According to the American Red Cross, donating blood has several benefits including: providing blood for people who may need it and helping the donor check their blood health and generate healthy blood cells.
“I really enjoyed donating blood, it was my first time ever doing so for a blood drive, I am glad I had the opportunity to donate and possibly save someone’s life” Zlata Putintseva, a junior at Chapin.
Students are able to donate their blood, if illegible, and volunteer to work the drive for service hours. With parental permission, students aged 16 and up are able to donate or volunteer.
