Super Bowl 59 wrapped up February 9th with a dominant blowout victory. In a highly anticipated matchup, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 40-22, clinching their 3rd Super Bowl title.
The game was a true showcase of talent, with Quarterback Jalen Hurts leading the charge for the Eagles, securing the MVP award after an impressive performance, throwing for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Chiefs did not live up to expectations, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a career bad night, only having 33 yards and no touchdowns in the first half, contributing to the Chiefs bad night.
“I’m glad the Chiefs lost because they are annoying,” said freshman Thomas Ricks. The Chiefs were on a 3-peat campaign after winning the last 2 Super Bowls, so fans were happy about a change.
Some of the game’s most notable players for the Eagles was running back Saquan Barkley, former New York Giants running back in his first year on the Eagles, played a key role in the run game for Philadelphia. Cooper DeJean, a cornerback for the Eagles had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. The win marks a major milestone for the Eagles, who won their last Super Bowl in 2017 against the Patriots.
Off the field, Super Bowl 59 was a spectacle in its own right. The halftime show, headlined by Kendrick Lamar, brought an incredible, yet controversial performance.
