On February 22, 2025, Chapin High School hosted a CWEA Winter guard competition.
Over 40 winter guards competed at the competition. The competition had food vendors and a permanent jewelry vendor.
“Being a winning team and being a part of a team who is able to get us where we are is exciting,” said Tabitha Kaune, guard team member. “I know we’re all nervous grateful and excited about moving up to another class SA.”
This is Chapin High School’s second time hosting a winter guard competition in the last four years and directors of other winter guards have asked Chapin to host again because it was such a good experience.
Chapin High School’s Mr. Johnson, a coach of Colleton County’s Winter Guard, says “It was great! The Chapin organizers were amazing. They were helpful and brought the stress level down.”
Chapin’s volunteers also had a blast at the competition. “I liked seeing all of the different shows and the proud parents in the stands watching their children,” said Elizabeth Vann, a volunteer at the competition.
Even though they hosted, Chapin still competed. The Cadet team won first place, the JV team received third place in Scholastic Regional A round one, and the varsity team won first place in Scholastic AA. The varsity has won all three of their competitions so far. After the Chapin Competition the varsity team was moved up to class A.
