Walking into Psychology class first thing on an A day, most students are greeted by Mr. John Bailey’s warm smile and big “Good morning!” but the enthusiasm does not end there. Bailey continues the pep throughout the morning and through the day.
“He is hilarious. He tells these crazy stories about his family and he does these voices. He’s so funny,” said junior Mallory Knowles.
Bailey is one of a handful of teachers who have joined the Chapin family this year and he is already making a lasting impression. Whether telling side-splitting stories about his Egyptian college professor or creating an interesting lesson in Social Studies, Bailey creates a comfortable learning atmosphere for his students.
“I think he is very interesting. He amuses me non-stop in class and I find I’m never bored with him,” says junior Teri Burchfield.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Bailey moved here from Florence where he taught at Wilson High School. He is a father of three and a devoted husband. He is also kind of into World of Warcraft.
So far, Bailey has been impressed by the student body.
Bailey says, “Chapin is awesome. I love how energetic and eager the students are. I don’t really have any dislikes…yet. I’m excited to be here, I look forward to the coming school year and GO EAGLES!”
Bailey is not all fun and games. He combines his energy with a passion for teaching.
“His tests are challenging but I look forward to that class. In his class, you are free to speak up,” says sophomore Cody Lambeth.
Mr. Ross concurs with student opinion and feels Bailey has all of the traits that CHS looks for in a teacher because he encourages to do their best and strive for success.
Students and staff are having no trouble warming up to Bailey and he has become a part ofChapinHigh Schoollike he has been here since day one.
