One of the new teachers as Chapin High School this year is Mrs. Brophy.
Mrs. Brophy graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999 and has been a teacher for 10 years.
She teaches science classes such as biology, anatomy, and environmental science. Some Chapin students may already know Mrs. Brophy–she taught 7th grade science classes at Chapin Middle School for the last five years before moving to teach high school.
When asked why she made the move from the middle school to the high school, she responded, “They changed the standards for seventh grade science and I really disliked the new ones.”
Mrs. Brophy loves science due to the fact that it is all around us. She also loves how hands-on science is. She loves science so much that even if she was not a teacher, she would likely be working in a science field. Mrs. Brophy has a passion for teaching kids–they are her favorite part of her job. She also says she used to teach skiing and wakeboarding classes and had a homeschool preschool where she used to teach little kids
She mentioned that her least favorite part of the job is the seemingly endless amount of paperwork that she has to do. Overall, she loves her job!
