Ms Lopez-Silvers graduated in 2021, Iona College and now works in the math department of Chapin High School. She teaches both Algebra and Geometry and comes from a family of teachers. Her Grandparents were teachers. Ms. Lopez-Silvers’s favorite subject in school was math–which was also her top class from as far back as the 2nd grade–and has been her main passion for years.
Prior to working at Chapin, she worked at a charter school in Brooklyn, New York for two years. Ms Lopez-Silvers has been teaching for four years. She has been teaching at Chapin for two of those years, including one year virtually.
She decided that she wanted to relocate to South Carolina in 2020. Ms Lopez- Silvers said, “I wanted to get a change of pace from the big city atmosphere. Chapin seemed really nice, almost like those small cozy towns in the movies.”
After the move she started working at Chapin High School, she had admired how hard the commitment to sports around this school was and the ‘feel good’ energy the school radiated towards her.
Furthermore, Ms Lopez-Silvers also enjoys the learning and working environment at Chapin High School.
“They have been enjoyable students to teach, these high school students have been a welcome time from my middle schoolers and how that teaching experience was,” said Ms. Lopez-Silvers.
Making her time at Chapin that much more enjoyable have been her co-workers. “The entire math team, a good little squad, helps with almost everything,” she said.
To sum it up Ms Lopez-Silvers has had a positive experience with the Chapin High School community. She stated, “I’ve really enjoyed pep rallies here, always fun and different athletic events are a great time, I do my best to attend all of them. I even got wrapped into a volleyball event this Friday!”
Overall Ms Lopez believes that Chapin High School is one of the best schools in the area, she couldn’t be happier that she had decided to move to Chapin.
