She has jumped out of planes countless times. She has won tons of metals and received 15 ribbons, all with out getting injured. Her name is Colonel Leigh Coulter and her 30 years as commander in the military have been everything but boring.
During her first day in Iraq she was welcomed by a record breaking sandstorm. “Something is always happening in Iraq, they [Taliban] have launched missiles at the base I was at many of times,” said Colonel Coulter.
Colonel Coulter, also the sister of Spanish teacher Mrs. Allison Coulter, give a presentation about her time in the war to R.O.T.C. and other classes on Thursday, February 26, during block 4A in the band room.
She talked about everything from job opportunities in the army, to the talk of peace in the Middle East. “There is not separation between government and religion. Their strict religion is their government. Things will settle down in the Middle East one day, but peace as we know it will never happen over there.”
She witness the military change over time. “There have been huge changes for women in the military. They now allow women on submarines. I think that soon, they will get rid of don’t ask don’t tell. When you are given a mission that needs to be done, you stop caring who the person you are working with is. When it comes down it, you only care about Integrity, and that is what really matters.”
