In late September, it was announced that Chapin High School had the highest SAT scores in the Midlands, and the second highest in South Carolina. Chapin High School’s composite average on the test was 1,580. Scores included an average of 521 in critical reading, 553 in mathematics, and 506 in writing. Dutch Fork and Irmo High also had great scores, with Dutch Fork’s being 1,544 and Irmo trailing with a score of 1,475.
Equally as impressive, Lexington-Richland Five had the largest percentage of seniors in the state actually take the SAT, with an astounding eighty-two percent of the Classes of 2011 taking it. This is excellent, compared to the state-wide average of approximately fifty percent. Also, District Five’s three high schools are among the top 10 in the Midlands for students graduating in 2011.
Lexington-Richland Five is proud of their students, and they represented South Carolina well, and hope to see even greater improvements next year.
