Chapin Swimming closes season with victories over Dutch Fork and Irmo

Chapin Swimming closes season with victories over Dutch Fork and Irmo

On October 1 Chapin swimming squared off with Dutch Fork and Irmo to determine who rules the pool in D5.   Chapin settled the score with a 175 to 161 victory over Dutch Fork and a 185 to 149 victory over Irmo.

 

Chapin girls broke two all-time school records. Catherine Bendziewicz broke the 200 IM record and holds 7 out of 8 individual school records for Chapin swimming. The girls 200 Free relay with Catherine Bendziewicz,   Emily Gleaton, Cindy Spence, and Alexa Ussery claimed the new school record in that event.

Other top races included Denise Shealy winning the 200 and 500 Free, Catherine Benziewicz winning the 100 Fly, and   Emily Gleaton winning the 100 Free. The girls 200 and 400 Free relay team came in first in both races sealing the victory for Chapin.

The Chapin boys were faced with very tough competition from the Silver Foxes and Yellow Jackets. They fought for every point to the finish and scored what was needed to put Chapin on top overall.  The best finishes for the boy’s team were Jack Tenbrunsel 3rd in the 200 IM and 100 Breast, Warren Coppage 3rd in the 100 Fly, and Will Tenbrunsel 3rd in the100 Back.

Chapin Swim Team will be competing in the 3A State Championship meet on October 11 at USC Sol Blatt pool
