Chapin Girls Soccer Preview
The Lady Eagles hope to win the State Championship after a loss in the Upper State Title match last season
CHAPIN, S.C.– Chapin Girls Varsity Soccer finished last season as 3A semifinalists with a 20-5 season record. This year they look to capitalize off their recent success to achieve their championship goals.
The Ladies’ aspirations for the state title last year were stalled in a tough 1-0 loss to Dreher High School in the Upper State Championship. This year the girls want “to win state and hopefully go undefeated,” said sophomore midfielder, Katie Arthur.
“We have been playing together for a few years now. We have a lot of talent and we think playing with one another will help us do well,” said senior captain, Shelby Waites, when asked what this particular team has that could set them apart from the pack. After only losing two seniors from last year, the girls have a lot of chemistry that could be helpful to this team’s success throughout this season.
Coach Bob Taylor has built a winning program at Chapin with a State Championship and Upper State Championship appearance in the last two seasons. He is looking to “fix everything that slowed the team down last year” according to junior, Kennedy Waring, so the Eagles can finally win the state title.
Recent success has placed the Lady Eagles as big time preseason hopefuls to win the State Championship. Although in region rival, Dreher, will be tough to beat, the girls look to do so in order to fulfill their title hopes.
