Deck the Halls
Chapin High School’s annual Deck the Halls contest is back this week, with each grade battling the others to decorate their portion of the hallway the best. Members of the student government class are given one week to design and create their themed hallways. The front office receptionists will judge each of the hallways with a set rubric. The winner will be announced at the homecoming pep rally on Friday, October 14.
The freshman student government class’s hallway is themed around the world. It has been decorated to represent significant landmarks from different countries. There is an Eiffel Tower, Big Ben clock, pyramids, along with a tomb and mummy.
A Halloween town has been created by the sophomores. This spooky hallway has ghosts dangling from the ceiling, and the blacked out windows.
Chapin student, Giovanni Macaluso, said “I feel that our Halloween theme is better than the Chapin’s lit theme we did last year. We’ve decorated our hall a lot better than last year. It’s been a great improvement, so it gives us a good sense of accomplishment.”
The juniors of student government decorated their hallway with an outer space theme. The juniors dimmed the hallway lights and put up christmas lights to look like stars. Also, they hung up planets and rocket ships to make the students feel like they were in outer space.
“It was a lot of decorating the hallway and coming up with ideas to see what we could accomplish” said junior, Aubrey Smith.
The seniors have transformed their hallway into a Harry Potter world. They have included Quidditch goals, dementors, broomsticks, and the “Great Hall”.
“We hope that we win because it was a lot of work for all of us to put the hallways together, and make them look awesome” said junior, Whitney Wilks.
Deck the Halls has become an annual event at Chapin High School during homecoming week. Student Council Adviser, Billie Williams, said “We love doing this event because it really raises school spirit and competition among the classes during homecoming week.”

Great article Co-Editors-in-Chief! I love seeing all four hallway designs incorporated into the story at the top of the page. Really interesting to see the new designs this year, including the senior hallway! Keep up the good work, almost time for me to make another visit! 🙂
