Chapin and Flora Face-off For Region

On Friday, November 4th, the Chapin Eagles and the AC Flora Falcons will soar onto Columbia Fireflies stadium, Spirit Communications Park, at 7:30 p.m for the 4A Region V Championship.

Chapin enters the game with a record of 7-2 with a 3-0 record in region, and AC Flora are also 3-0 in region but 6-4 overall. Since both teams are undefeated in the region, the winner of this game will be crowned Region Champion.

This game is important for both teams because the 4A Region V Champion will have home playoff games until the State Championship game.

When asked how the team is handling preparation for this important game, senior offensive linemen, Will Webster, said “We are just trying to treat it like any other region game.”

Throughout this season, Chapin has experienced some struggles on offense this year particularly in the beginning of the season scoring just 25.6 points per game in the first five games. However, lately Chapin seems to be finding their offensive form scoring on average  38.5 points per game during their last four wins.

Webster also said that the offense needs to “go out there and execute, throw the ball around, and play as good as we are capable of” in order to be successful against the Falcons defense.

AC Flora has also seen their offense hit their stride late in the season with the Falcons scoring 47.6 points per game during their five game win streak. Since the Falcons are performing so well with the ball the Chapin defense will need to find ways to stop them and create turnovers.

In order to be able to slow down the Falcons offense, senior linebacker, Mac Eason, said “we have to get off the field (on third down) which is something we have struggled with this year.”

Considering A.C. Flora and Chapin have developed an in-region rivalry over the past few years, Chapin students “expect a spirited game that will be a lot of fun to watch” said Chase Haywood, Co-Chapin Pep Club leader.

The Eagles and Falcons will play under the lights of Spirit Communication Park on Friday, November 4th, at 7:30 p.m.
