Students Take On Trump's Inauguration

The 2016 election between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump made headlines and carried controversy from the primary’s down to the final vote. As our first presidential election as young adults, students were able to be involved with the election and voice their own political beliefs; some seniors were even eligible to cast their first vote. Though it was a tight race to the finish, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th president of the United States.

Trump’s inauguration will be held on Friday, January 20th in Washington D.C. and multiple Chapin students have decided to experience the historical moment amongst the crowd. Students going to Washington include juniors Garrett Ringer, Hunter Lacey, Parker Dixon and Jakob Free.

When asked why he wanted to go to the inauguration, Garrett Ringer said, “because [Donald] Trump loves America, I love America and we are going to make it great again”.

Though the anticipation will be high, there is worry that the excitement will cause for conflict amongst the crowd. After the news reported Donald Trump as the next president, many voters began to riot outside of Trump Tower to display their frustration. It is unlikely that their emotion had subsided; especially on the day Trump officially becomes president.

“I wouldn’t suggest to go, I think it’s extremely controversial for his inauguration so I would be afraid. I mean the security will be tight but you never know what is going to happen,” said guidance counselor Emma Cowley regarding the inauguration.

Students will be excited to experience the inauguration along with other passionate Americans. It is time to welcome Trump to the White House and celebrate his journey to presidency, despite the drama that has followed the election.
