2017 Spring Sports Start Up
Spring is coming fast around the corner and with it the startup of spring sports. Tennis, Track and Field, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Men and Women’s Soccer and Cheer all begin in April and go through February.
Chapin men’s Tennis made it all the way to the upper state finals before losing to A.C Flora High in 2016. Losing only two seniors the team now has seven seniors. Chapin Tennis has a promising season before it now with most of the seniors being on the team throughout high school.
Luke Meetze said “We are at our peak this year. We should have a good run through playoffs.”
Track and Field had two athletes make it to state qualifiers last season. Grant Homiel and Ryan Janis competed for the qualifiers and Grant Homiel will return for the 2017 season. The girls finished 1st and undefeated in their region and the guys finished 2nd just behind River Bluff High.
Baseball had a great 2016 season by becoming region champions. Softball took their first district title in the 2016 season as well. Both the guys and girls face promising seasons with last years results. The Baseball and Softball teams will also enjoy new press box facilities this season.
The girl’s lacrosse team earned the region title in the 2016 season and also has a promising 2017 season.
Men and Women’s Soccer won the state championships in the 2016 season. They now will defend those titles with the 2017 season starting.
Leslie Correll said “We have a good team this year, and we should have a great season.”
Competitive Cheer won the state championship as well and will now defend their title.
