New Publix Changing Chapin
On Thursday, Oct. 28, the new Publix made its’ greatly anticipated grand opening in Chapin. Crowds of people rushed in, excited to finally see inside the massive building.
The Publix was built on the corner of Old Lexington and Hwy 76. It includes a bakery, pharmacy, and a deli with Boar’s Head subs. The line for these subs wrapped from the deli to the front of the store on opening day. “I like Publix subs because they are affordable and very tasty” said junior Trad Beatty.
Students favorite part of the Publix varied between the deli, bakery and the seafood. Seniors Reid Minges, Sydney Keith, and Spencer Bonvillian all said that their favorite part was the sushi.
“The Publix will greatly affect my grocery shopping. It always has the best deals, and higher quality foods,” said Jacob Wright, a senior.
The new grocery store is a great opportunity for students looking for a job. Junior, Ali Pope, 17, used to work in the Publix in Irmo, but was transferred to this one on opening day.
The parking lot has entrances from both Amicks Ferry, Old Lexington, and Hwy 76. This is convenient for all customers coming from different sides of Chapin. This Publix is on the old site of Chapin Furniture which relocated to Columbia Ave.
“Publix is a great center for the Chapin community and they have good customer service.” said Chase Haywood, a junior.
