Chapin Wrestling Headed to Lower State Championship

On Monday, February 5th, Chapin High School Wrestle defeated Lugoff-Elgin by a score of 39-34 to advance to the Lower State Championship. Chapin will wrestle Cane Bay tonight, February 7th. The winner will advance to the State Championship.

Chapin is looking to make it to its second straight State Championship match under the direction of Head Coach, Ken Wilson.

The match will feature Cole Haile and Cole Hodges, both of whom were recently named Co-WLTX News 19 Player of the Week. They both are undefeated in their senior seasons and were invited to the North-South All Star game.

The winner of tonight’s matchup will go onto face the winner of the Upper State Championship match between Eastside and the South Pointe. If both Chapin and Eastside are victorious, it will be a rematch of last year’s State Championship which saw Eastside lift the trophy.

Chapin made it to the Lower State Championship by defeated both Hilton Head and Lugoff-Elgin after a first round bye week. The Chapin High School Pep Club is looking to have a big turnout for the wrestling match. The theme is a “white out” and the “first 50 students to arrive dressed in themewear will receive free entry to the match” said Student Body President, Chase Haywood.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity of making it back to the State Championship, but we have to take it one match at a time, so tonight we are focused on Cane Bay and beating them” said Senior Captain, Cole Hodges.
