Students Express their Views About the New Parking System
Parking spots are filling up as classes begin. There are over 500 parking spots, plus the gravel lot, for students. To get parking passes for this year, students need to fill out a registration form, make sure they don’t have any ID debts or zeros in classes, and take the Alive@25 course. They also have to pay $50.00. Some students didn’t like the new system when it was rolled out last year because of the time that it took to have teachers sign their forms.
Ashley Noller, a junior, was not a fan of the system. “Our grades in our classes should have nothing to do with our parking privilege. Some teachers were biased towards students,” said Noller.
Eleanor Lawton, a junior, was so-so about the system. “It’s all right, but I think it should be less expensive,” said Lawton.
Blaine Burnette, a senior, agreed with Ashley and said, “Many teachers refused to sign the forms for a long time, and it could be very biased.”
If you haven’t gotten your parking spot yet, there are parking spaces left. Mrs. Kathy Habat, who is in charge of parking, said, “there are only spaces left in the gravel lot.” The forms needed to get a parking pass are found on the Chapin High website under the student information section. When those parking spaces are filled up, as they quickly are, students will have to find other rides to school.
Students who didn’t like last year’s system don’t need to worry yet. Mrs. Habat said “this year’s parking pass system was Dr. Ross’s idea, so the system might change with Mr. Ames.” Students, however, still should make sure to complete all of their assignments just in case teacher signatures are needed again this year.
