Trends come and go throughout high schools every year. The new “in” is always a “must have”. In many cases teenagers feel like they have to have the newest kicks or coolest jacket to fit in with their peers. Many teens do certain things and wear certain clothes to fit in with their friends. Also, the clique students are in decides what is considered the “must have” trends. While clothes are a big factor in high school, there are other things teens feel they need to fit in.
For example, the “preps” drive more expensive cars such as BMW’s and Mercedes. The “country boys” want the biggest and loudest truck. Teenagers seem to put themselves in situations where it is always a competition.
This year at Chapin High School, yoga pants and leggings have become the newest thing. One reason they are so popular is that these pants are extremely comfortable, but some feel they are also extremely inappropriate to wear in public.
Although many girls know this, they feel pressured to buy them because of they feel the need to fit it.
Yoga pants and leggings are not the only new trends this year. Remember in middle school when everyone had to have a Columbia jacket to fit in? Well, this has evolved from Columbia to North Face to the new Patagonias.
Trends have always been around and come and go with time. Some students are not always accepting of others who are unlike them. The country boys don’t hang out with AP students just as the gamers don’t associate with the preps. It’s basically about what the people in your group agree with as to what is trendy.
