Students at Chapin High line up and get ready to show off your Chapin pride and show that you matter!
Mental health is everything and is very important for high schoolers right now going through different issues such as depression, anxiety, low confidence, and more. Chapin’s #WHYYOUMATTER helps students be aware that they matter and that they have good qualities.
Students from all grades participate in this fun and easy project that the honors photo students are doing to help students with whatever they are dealing with so they understand they do serve a purpose. To show that they are important.
Each student takes a board and writes something good about themselves whether its that they are nice, smart, funny, or caring. Students write something good about themselves to emphasize that YOU matter and that YOU have a purpose
The photography teacher, Ms Brown, explained why she decided to do the project at Chapin and what influenced her to do the activity for the students.
“It wasn’t exactly my idea, it was a national thing that’s going on to bring attention to mental health and suicide prevention,” said Ms. Brown.
Pierce Dowling, 11th grader at Chapin High School, “I think its a really good idea and its going really well so far, I think it sort of opens everyone’s shell and makes them realize they really do matter.” Pierce continued to say that everyone who participates in this activity makes a difference and brings awareness to mental health issues.
Overall Chapin Highs honors photo class’s purpose of #WHYYOUMATTER is to make the students feel that they belong and that everyone matters and has feelings and emotions.
