For many seniors the stress of college has set in. With the possibilities of where to go, what to major in, and where to live these major decisions have now become the main focus of their lives. As for senior Jacqueline Twitty, the decision has already been made as she prepares to embark on her 500 mile journey from Chapin to Louisville, Kentucky to play golf for the University of Louisville.

Jacqueline Twitty begun playing golf when she was five years old. As she grew older her love for the sport also grew.

“I really had my sports narrowed down to golf or basketball and after a while I realized that I just loved golf more and it could take me farther” Twitty said.

In seventh grade Twitty joined the Chapin Girls Varsity Golf Team. As she began to play, her pure talent for golf started to show. Winning the 2014 AJGA Preseason Tournament at Chateau Eloj, tying for second at the 2014 Golfweek South East Invitational, taking three high school tournaments, and being named News 19 Player of the Week are just a few of her accomplishments.

“For me winning the AJGA Preseason Tournament at Chateau Eloj has been my biggest accomplishment. I was beyond excited because it showed all of my hard working paying off” Twitty says.

As her high school career of playing golf is coming to an end Twitty’s Journey has only begun. Twitty was awarded a full ride scholarship to play golf for the University of Lousville in Lousville, Kentucky. Although Lousville is over 500 miles away from Chapin Twitty says this is what she has always wanted for college.

“It’s scary going so far away but I’ve always wanted to go far from home to expierence a new place in the world and be on my own. I know between my coaches, teammates, and the students at Lousville they will make me feel at home.”

Not only will the atmosphere of her academics be different but the playing field will be different as well.

“Playing college golf is a lot different from high school golf. You are playing against the best collegiate golfers in the world, rather than golfers within the state. So it will definitely be a lot more competitive” Twitty says.

As for her career after college Jacqueline is unsure whether she will continue on to professional golf or start a different career.

“I’ve though about professional golf a lot but I’m still unsure. I’m going to see where college takes me and decide from there” Twitty comments.

No matter where the University of Lousville does take Twitty Chapin will always be proud to have her as part of the family.IMG_2914
