Year in Review: CHS Volleyball 2013

The Lady Eagles wrapped up another successful volleyball season finishing the season with a 23-2 record.  The Lady Eagles lost to Pickens in the Upper State Championship for the second year in a row.  The Lady Eagles had a 12-0 region record and captured their second straight region championship.  The team finished one game short of reaching their goal but their play was impressive all season.

The Eagles were led by seniors, Becca Barton, Brooke Clifton, Jasmine Flowers, Heather Friedrich, and Nicole Landry.  “This group of seniors displayed great leadership throughout the season” said Coach Mary Jo Jenny.  Becca Barton was selected to play in the North/South All Star game, which is a game that displays the best seniors in the state.  She was also selected to the All-State team for the second year in a row and was named the Region Player of the Year for Region IV.  In addition to these honors, she was also selected as WLTX Player of the Week.  Jasmine Flowers was also selected to play in the North/ South game with Becca and was an All Region selection.  Brooke Clifton was selected to the All Region team for the first time this season.  Heather Friedrich was a first year player for the Lady Eagles and provided great vocal leadership.  Nicole Landry was also a first year player for the Eagles after starting on the JV team last season.

Junior Katie Lass rounded out the All Region selections for Chapin as she was selected to the All Region team for the second straight year.  Junior Maddy Bowden contributed in crucial times this season and was spectacular in her starting debut at Camden.

The sophomore class was very successful on the court.  The sophomore class included:  Celeste Disque, Kathryn Hughes, Megan Jefferson, and Steffi Johnson.  All of these sophomores contributed to the success of the Eagles this year.  Kathryn Hughes had limited playing time because of ACL recovery but will make a huge impact on the program next year.  Megan Jefferson started every game for the Eagles for the second year in a row.  Celeste Disque started for the Eagles for the first time and was the first server the entire year.  Steffi Johnson was a member of the varsity team for the first time and did a fantastic job coming off the bench.

The Lady Eagles would like to thank the students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends that supported them throughout the 2013 season.  The Lady Eagles went two entire seasons without losing a game at home and won the last game in the old gym with a victory over Chapman.  Congratulation to the entire team for a wonderful season!
