Wrestling Update
Chapin, S.C.- As Chapin Wrestling approaches the end of the regular season, the team looks towards a successful run in the playoffs, and perhaps, a state championship. Chapin (18-3) has enjoyed a great season thus far, with the only losses coming twice to 4A heavyweights Boiling Springs and Rock Hill.
“[The season] has been a lot of fun,” said junior Hank Manos.
“We’ve really been beating all the teams we wrestled, dominating, in 3A,” said AJ Spearman, a senior.
“We can win [a state title]. That’s my expectation,” said Dylan Whitcomb, a junior.
However, the wrestlers know there are areas in which they must improve to meet their goals of a state championship.
“We need to fill a couple more weight classes and get a little bit stronger in them,” said Spearman.
The Eagles wrapped up their latest tournament, the Military Duels, with a third place finish and a 4-2 record. The tournament featured tough competition, including 4A teams Boiling Springs, Dutch Fork and Westwood. Cole Haile earned Most Outstanding Wrestler with a 6-0 record, all by pin, in the tournament hosted by Chapin High School.
