Summer Adventures

Many Chapin High school students got the opportunity to travel across the world and experience different cultures. This is a great way for students to expand their educational opportunities outside of the classroom.

Mason Mims, a senior, went to Botswana and Zimbabwe, two different countries in South Africa. Mason said, “My favorite place was Botswana because I saw a lion kill a buffalo.”

Another student in the senior class, Mateo Mariaca,  visited Cancun Mexico. Although Mateo didn’t go to a different continent, he got to experience a different culture. Mateo went for a wedding that took place in a burnt down church.  Both of these students expanded their knowledge of different countries and the lifestyles within them.

Multiple students got the opportunity to interact with animals that you don’t normally see everyday. For instance, Salley Slice, a senior, traveled to Haiti, Cozumel, and Jamaica. In Jamaica she was lucky enough to swim with dolphins. Sadie Salazar, a freshman, got to experience snorkeling with stingrays in the Dominican Republic. During these excursions, both students were able to gain knowledge on these sea creatures.

Traveling the world and engaging in the excursions that different countries offer is great hands on learning experience and often allows students to learn beyond the textbooks.
