Annual American Red Cross Blood Drive

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Chapin High School will be holding its annual Red Cross Blood Drive.

The American Red Cross Association, who’s mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering, welcomes all eligible students, faculty and staff to participate. Students that are 16 years of age must have a consent form signed. All are encouraged to sign up through Mrs. Morgan, sponsor of Chapin’s Beta Club, in room C335.

During the donation, participants will go over their personal health history and travel locations. Nurses will then check the donor’s blood pressure, pulse, hemoglobin levels, and temperature. The process will take around 8-10 minutes, and is completely sterile and safe. Donating platelets, red cells or plasma, can take up to two hours. After donating, donors will receive a snack and refreshment, and are allowed to leave the designated clinic after 10-15 minutes.

Here are some helpful to know tips prior to donating:

  1. Get a good night’s sleep
  2. Drink lots of water or non alcoholic fluids
  3. Eat a healthy meal
  4. Remember to bring your donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of ID
  5. Wear a shirt that’s sleeves can be raised above the elbow
  6. You must weigh at least 110 pounds (the weight requirement will increase as your height decreases)
