Dr. Ross is counting on Spring sports to take home Chapin High Schools 50th State Championship.

As Dr. Ross finishes up his last year as principal of Chapin High School, and transitions into Director of Secondary Education for Lexington Richland Five, he hopes to leave with 50 state championships. As of now, Chapin High holds 49 State Champion Titles in various sports and activities.

Spring sports are just beginning and are the only sports left that have the opportunity to bring home a ring this year. The spring sports include, soccer, baseball, golf, lacrosse, boy’s tennis, track and field, and softball. In order to achieve this goal, seniors on each team must step up and motivate their teammates as it is their last chance for a championship.

Many of the senior athletes are determined to make their last mark on Chapin athletics before they leave with Dr. Ross.

A senior member of the boy’s tennis team, Luke Layton, says that, “we believe that we have a good chance this year. If we beat AC Flora there is a strong possibility that we will win state. We graduated seven seniors last year, but we have a new transfer who is very good.” A senior, Nick Price, on the Varsity Baseball team believes that, “If we take one game at a time, and do what we’re supposed to do, we have a shot.” Another senior, Junie Wright, who is on the Varsity Softball team says, “I feel like we will make it into the playoffs and go far, but we haven’t won state in a long time, but it could happen.”

Student Athletes are looking forward to winning a 50th State Championship for Chapin High School as a final thank you and farewell to Dr. Ross.
