#1 South Carolina defeats #5 UCONN for first time in program history
February 10, Columbia, SC- In front of a sellout crowd of over 18,000 the #1 ranked Gamecocks defeated the #5 ranked UConn’s Women’s basketball team by a score of 70-52. The Gamecocks were led by Tyasha Harris with 19 points and 11 assists, freshman guard Aliyah Boston led the Gamecocks with 12 rebounds.
Entering the game the Lady Gamecock’s (23-1) had a previous 0-8 record against the Huskies seven loses under National Champion coach Dawn Staley, The Huskies (20-3) have been a challenge for the Gamecocks for the past 12 years and the Gamecocks finally pulled it out and the Huskies were defeated.After years of frustration against the Huskies, Head coach Dawn Staley can take a sigh of relief after one of her biggest regular-season wins of her tenure.
“It means a lot to me, I’ve experienced highs and lows of USC Women’s Basketball. I’ve always had faith in them, and to finally see it happen is truly amazing” said Junior Mckenzie Lott.
