Chapin Celebrates Trick or Canning

Near Halloween, Chapin High School clubs went Trick-or-Canning  to help the Chapin We Care Center.

Trick-or-Canning is an event that involves students from different clubs and organizations, including Student Government, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Model UN, Key Club, Sophomore Board, Red Cross Club, HOSA, FCA, Dance Marathon, and Junior Civitans. The groups  collected the canned goods from various neighborhoods and communities in Chapin. They then donate all of the food to Chapin We Care Center. 

The event raised 1,551 pounds of food for the Chapin We Care Center. The Sophomore Board ended up collecting the most pounds of food, with a total of 305 pounds. 

The best part of the experience was that “we were able to give back a lot to the community and to those in need,” said Susannah Johnson, a senior, and a member of Chapin’s Student Government.

Participants left a bag of canned goods on their porches, and Chapin High School students came by to pick them up. Another one of the best parts of  Trick or Canning is that participants could get most of the items from their pantries.  The items that were in the highest demand were: jams/jellies, canned peas, tomatoes, collard greens, corn, boxed pasta, Jello, dry beans, Progresso soup, pork and beans, and baked beans.
