TWO CHAPIN HIGH STUDENT ATHLETES SIGN NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
CHAPIN, SC-Chapin High School’s Kathleen Mirgon and Thomas Durant made it official Monday, November 18, 2013 by signing their National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse and baseball.
Mirgon has made a deep impact on the lacrosse field. Her accolades consist of three time All Region, 2013 Region Player of the Year, two time All State selection and three time Team MVP. Kathleen has signed with Shippensburg University located in Pennsylvania. The Raiders are coached by Ashley Manion and they are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference of The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II.
“Being a coach and father puts extra strains on a coaching relationship, but Kathleen always responds”, said Chapin head girl’s lacrosse coach Jeff Mirgon. “With the love of the sport, love of her team, hard work and the intangibles of speed and size, she has proven to be one of the better players in South Carolina.”
Durant, a two year letter winner going into his senior season, has complied an impressive record on the mound. He has pitched 68 innings and struck out 100 batters. His ERA is 2.39 and his overall record is 9-1. Thomas has signed with Coastal Carolina University. The Chanticleers are coached by Gary Gilmore and they are members of the Big South Conference of The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I.
“Chapin High School has a rich tradition in baseball and Thomas has helped carry the torch”, said Chapin head baseball coach Scott McLeod. “Durant has a very bright future ahead of him,” said McLeod. “This is a great day for the Chapin Baseball Family.”
The signing took place at 10:00 in the Gym lobby of Chapin High School.
