Chapin Crazies Making Waves

The Student Section of Chapin High School is drawing attention around the state.

The Chapin Crazies add to the atmosphere of an exciting home game.

Chapin High School, known for its success in academics and athletics, is now recognized for another accomplishment. The excitement of the plays on the field or court can now be complemented with the fantastic atmosphere created by the up-and-coming student section.  This atmosphere can be credited to the Chapin Pep Club. The once mediocre student section of Chapin High School has taken off since the recent rise in the prominence of the group known by many as the “Chapin Crazies”, partially due to the role of self-proclaimed “Pep God” Andrew Arrison.

“I’ve been going crazy before a lot of people even cheered at games, and look where we are now.” said Arrison, a junior at CHS. “I think a lot of people started to realize that we need a crazy student section for all sports, no matter how good we are. It has a huge effect in changing the atmosphere so we can get inside the other team’s heads.”
As the student section continued to grow, people began to notice. The Chapin Crazies were recently featured in “The State” newspaper and USA Today. The pep club was filmed in action and recognized by WLTX after being awarded best AAA student section in the state. The excitement created by the student section has seemed to spread throughout the school and has resulted in an increase in overall school spirit. WIS recently awarded Chapin High School as school of the week and came to the school to broadcast a spotlight on the school. Chapin is also nominated as one of three finalists for the “Palmetto’s Finest” award, annually given to the best high school in the state. It appears as though the Chapin Crazies have not only improved the atmosphere of athletic events, but the overall atmosphere of the school- and people are taking notice.
