Book Pals have once again started in the Chapin High School library! You can pick up books until February 25th.
Book Pals is an event where the librarians wrap books in paper and write a few descriptive words on the paper and set them out on a table. They created two tables so both students and staff can go into the library and pick an unknown book that interests them.
Then, the students or staff read the book of their choosing. As they read they write notes to their Book Pal. Their book pal is someone who also gained the same book as them due to having similar interests. To send these notes to your book pal you write them on the Book Pal note paper that the library provides and put them in the “mail box” in the library. Your mystery book pal can pick up the note from the library and write you back. You do this until you finish the book.
Mrs. Mayes was asked a few questions in regards to Book Pals. She said “I look for the best books based on reviews in the last year or so.” She got the idea from “Blind date with a book” which bookstores often sell. Mrs. Mayes also said that last year there were only 100 participants but this year they had 100 people get books in the first 2 days.
We also took time and asked some students about their book pals. Kaylie Dyches said, “I am participating in book pals this year because all my friends are doing it.” and “No, I did not participate last year.”
Another student Vivian Garcia (11th) said, “I am bored and figured I should pick up a book to read in my free time. Also, the party at the end of the year is fun. The book that I got this year is really weird and doesn’t exactly fit what it was described as. I am going to read it but I am unsure if I’ll like it.”
Participants of Book Pals are reminded as they read the book, continue to write to your book pal. Book Pals will get to meet their partner at the Book Pals party in April.
