Basketball Tips Off

As students get ready to wrap up their fall sports seasons that can only mean one thing, winter sports are getting ready to start back up. Basketball is a very popular winter sport that many students at Chapin play or take part in. Basketball games quickly replace the familiar Friday night football games; but basketball is not just used for entertainment and enjoyment. Along with the start of the season comes hours of hard work and practice.

Both girls and boys basketball has been hard at it with conditioning and tryouts dating all the way back to the summer. Tryouts ended recently, and now players are working hard with practices all throughout the week and sometimes during the weekends.

The players are all working in an effort to win as many games as possible. Freshman Reid Creswell, JV Boys Basketball says “I am looking forward to winning games because that’s what we practice for. “Junior Blake Overton, Varsity Basketball says “I’m ready for this season cause were gonna be good.”

However, basketball is not all about long hours, hard work and tons of practicing. Many of the players look forward to the season because of the team environment. Junior Sara Stevens, Varsity Girls Baketball says she is exited for the upcoming season because of “all of the closeness and bonding they have on the team.” Everyone can agree that the hard work becomes easier when people enjoy what they are doing and who they are with. Freshman Mario Macaluso, B team Boys Basketball says “I am really excited for this season to play all of the games and I love all of the friends I get to play with.”

Many players can agree that although the season is long and hard it is all worth it. Not only are the players on the team extremely close knit but they all also have a lot in common. Sports are always fun for whatever the individuals reason may be, and basketball is a popular sport for students to be involved in.
