Chapin High’s Beta Club has won a golden ticket. The weekend of October 7th, members from the school’s Beta Club attended the annual Leadership Summit Convention at the Great Wolf Lodge, in Concord, North Carolina. The group which included Presidents Clay Bellinger and Whitley Leviner and Co-Vice Presidents Sara Fuller and Braden Staub won first place in a competition that will allow them to compete at the National Convention in Georgia in 2018.

Clay Bellinger said he learned that the “outlook is the most important part of being a good team member and leader.”

For the “Lead Outside the Box” competition, students were given a hypothetical local issue and were instructed to create a solution while also explaining the necessary steps to enact it and the outcomes to the solution. The students were given 24 hours to present an “outside-of-the-box” solution. For this scenario, students researched and provided viable solutions to helping a homeless family living in a building that was scheduled for demolition in a large downtown area. CHS ‘s Beta Club qualified to compete in nationals for their placing in the competition.

The leadership convention invites National Beta Club members to participate in a range of activities focusing on the National Beta Clubs core leadership principles: growth, values, character, connect. Guest speakers also attended and spoke about these principles as well as personal behaviors and styles, ethical and personal values, relationships, team working skills, and personal achievement.
