Chapin High School begins a new year with a new Principal, Mr. Michael Ames, who was worked previously at Chapin High School and replaces Dr. Ross, who has moved up to a position in the District 5 office, after winning National Principal of the Year.

In interview with Mr. Ames on Thursday, September 20th, he explained how he got a text message from Dr. Ross asking him to come back to Chapin to fill in as principal. Mr. Ames was previously at Chapin High as assistant principal years ago, before leading two other South Carolina High schools.

Maddie Hutcherson, a junior at Chapin High School, expresses how she can “already tell he is going to be the perfect fit for Chapin as principal. He’s really nice, and I can tell he really cares about the students.”

Mr. Ames  says “my favorite part of being principal is fellowship with students.” Ames continued saying he wants to improve Chapin as a school and society by “not messing things up and build upon Chapin’s growth as a community.”

“(Mr. Ames) has done a great job coming in after Dr. Ross, the national principal of the year, which was a big challenge,” said Mrs. Schiferl, a teacher at Chapin High School. “Mr. Ames is really keeping the school together. He is always very positive and has student interest all the time, and indeed proud of both the students and teachers.”
