The Junior Civitans at Chapin High hosted a shoe drive.

This year, the Junior Civitan’s club is running a shoe drive through Keep the Midlands Beautiful. Keep the Midlands Beautiful is an organization that raises money, encourages recycling, keeps reusable shoes out of landfills, and helps families in developing nations. Keep the Midlands Beautiful then donates the funds to Funds2Orgs. Last year, Keep the Midlands Beautiful collected around 6,600 pairs of shoes.

Mrs. Schiferl, the sponsor of Junior Civitan’s, says, “what we like about it is that any person can help, not just Junior Civitan’s. They can get service hours, clean out their closet, and get credit for doing so while also keeping their shoes out of landfills.

This shoe drive will be highly beneficial because it progressively prevents diseases from spreading. Going barefoot can induce diseases and infections in feet. These sneakers and other shoes will help to protect and prevent them. All of these shoes will go to people in need of them.
