Chapin High Schools Cross Country team competed for the state championship on Saturday November 2nd all morning from 9-11 am.
Students participated in the Region 4-5A championships held at Lexington High school. Within the competition, schools around the region, such as Dutch Fork, White Knoll, River Bluff, Lexington, participated in this competition. JV girls and boys teams also competed with the varsity team.
Several of boys on the varsity, and JV, won and/or placed in a high rank this year. However, this year, one of our seniors placed first in the competition and became the champion for the region competition.
Summit Wood, a senior, won 1st for Chapin High in the state championship with a time of 15:35.25 approximately beating the Dutch Forks second place runner by 0.09.21 seconds!
“I really love how much the team has grown this year and how I’ve been able to lead the younger guys,” said Summit Wood. He continued saying how he believes that the team this year really put in the effort for this competition and season in general, and how he was proud of what the team did.
Hardin Edwards won 4th place for Chapin representing the girls varsity cross country at 19:18.35.
Overall:
The cross country team has worked hard all year with their conditioning and practices that led to their accomplishment of their positions in the competition
Along with Summit and Hardin, several other students from chapin placed in the competition representing our school and have been for years due to Chapins commitment and pride to our athletics department.
Overall, our schools cross country team has been very successful when it comes to athletics, Chapin has placed in top for several years.
