Antisocial Social Media
Within the last couple of months, all forms of social media have created unnecessary updates that make the apps unusable to adolescents.
Instagram’s latest update made their feed organized by popularity of the post, rather than chronological order of the post. Snapchat’s update made the app completely difficult to navigate. New Snapchat posts are impossible to see, and the app has become messier than before.
Facebook has been out of the loop since middle aged parents have flooded the feed and they have moved their target away from teens. It has recently surfaced about how much information Facebook stores about you and everything you search, click on, and view. They keep all this information and send it to ad companies so they can target and get you to view their products.
Junie Wright, a senior at Chapin High School, says, “Facebook is out of order but is way easier to view important news and get information about what is going on in the world.”
Several students agree that the only social media that remains relevant and usable is Twitter.
Corinne Forte, a senior, says, “Snapchat is a waste. Instagram is lame. Facebook is the OG and Twitter’s cool”.
Twitter allows Vine to live on and stays on trend. Twitter has even deleted copy-cat accounts that were used to increase views of viral tweets in order to gain popularity. Twitter is the only social media app that listens to the wants of their users. In fact, posts on Twitter often mock the inefficiency of other social media platforms.
Lizzy Worthey, also a senior, says, “Twitter is the only app that isn’t filling my feed with garbage”. Our staff completely agrees.
