Chapin Social Studies teacher Ronnie Wessinger was named the new Athletic Director in a special meeting held in late March. He will replace Scott Earley after his resignation was delivered in order to take the AD position at Lexington High School.

Coach Wessinger has been a football coach and teacher at CHS since 1992.

Glancing into the trophy case outside the cafeteria, one can find a picture of him proudly wearing a Clemson Tigers football uniform. Seniors enrolled in his US Government and/or Economics class all agree he has a lot of spirit and passion.

Junior Spencer Marsh is happy for Coach Wessinger, saying that it’s “cool because he wanted it for so long.” Marsh added that Wessinger as AD will be “better for all the sports because he’s a lot more approachable and will focus on all the sports, not just football.” Junior Michael Melvin agreed with Marsh, saying, “Coach Wessinger will perform better than AD’s in the past.”

With a new job title comes many new responsibilities, but Coach Wessinger is “fired up” to take them on.

“I knew I was named AD about two weeks before the official announcement,” he said, “but I’m excited to take the position.”

For the new players and students that have not been given the opportunity to get to know Coach Wessinger, there will be a Meet and Greet on April 19. The spring game will be on May 22. AD Wessinger plans to unveil some of his thoughts on the 2010-2011 athletic season.
