CHS swim team ends 2010 season with strong finish

Chapin swim team ended another successful season with a solid performance at the state competition October 9.

This year’s team practiced more than ever at over the summer at Quail Valley Pool. Coach Peggy Muller had the swimmers in the water for two hours nearly every day of the week to be ready for the first competition at the end of August.

“Practicing more made us better. We swam better times and even if it was hard it was a good workout,” Junior Hannah Finkernagel explained.

After a strong regular season, the team went undefeated during the regional meets including a dominant performance over rival AC Flora. The hardest adversary this season was Dutch Fork.

“They were a lot better than the last year,” says Junior Hayden Schelble.

Even with a stronger team, the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes fell 213-127 with the girls winning 115-55.

The strong season lead the team to predict big finishes at the state level meets.

“Our parents came to cheer, brought us food and sandwiches and have really been part of the team this year!” Logan Schumpert says.

Junior Logan Schumpert said, “I think we’ll be in the top 10 at the State Competition.”

And she was right. The team ended up swimming to a seventh place finish for the girls and the boys ended the season with a ninth place finish.
