Recap On Our Pep Rally

On Friday, February 2nd, Chapin High held their annual pep rally to honor clubs and winter sports teams.

The pep rally began with the announcement of the teacher and support staff of the year awards. Mrs. White, a Spanish teacher, won teacher of the year for the 2017-2018 school year. Beginning her career as a teacher in 1991, Mrs. White came to Chapin High School in 2009. Nichole Huyck, the athletic secretary, was honored as support staff of the year.

Shortly after, the Chapin Varsity Girls and Boys basketball team and Varsity Wrestling team ran through the tunnel. The crowd was supportive and wild with excitement.

Senior team members were individually recognized for their accomplishments during the season. Coach Snelgrove, the varsity basketball coach, spoke about how far the team has come throughout the season and invited the student body to come to the final game of the season which was held at home Friday night at 7:30pm.

When looking back on the season, Cole Evenfield, a Junior and the shooting guard of the basketball team, said “Everyone grew really close together. We are kind of a family now.”

Club members were also honored for their accomplishments in a recent fundraising. Clay Bellinger, a Senior and member of ROTC, was crowned for Coming Home King after raising $160 for Golding Eagle Evening.

“Coming home is one of the most fun times of the year for me because I get to represent clubs that I enjoy while raising money to give back to people who’ve been a part of the Chapin community for a long time” said Clay Bellinger.

Adding to the excitement, the classes competed in games against each other until the sophomore class took the lead and won the spirit flag.

To conclude the event, Dr. Ross lead the alma mater before dismissing students back to class.

“Being a senior in the second semester, I am satisfied with the spirit of one of my last pep rallies at Chapin High,” said Lauren Turner, a senior.

“I’m going to miss how pep rallies bring all of the classes together and create such a fun atmosphere,” said Chaney Patrick, a senior.
