Finding LOST

Will the lost be found? This is what millions of Americans are asking as the sixth and final season of ABC’s hit TV drama LOST begins. The beginning of the end for LOST, many are sad to see the show go. Beginning as a survival series centered around a group of plane crash victims, LOST quickly became more than just scrounging for food.

The trailers for the initial premier of the show featured an ominous island, and plane crash survivors clueless as to what lay ahead. These ads drew in LOST fanatic Will Duggan, who upon following the show believes, “I didn’t have any idea it’d be how it was, so I was pleasantly surprised.”

What made the show successful to start off was an amazing cast of characters. With over 300 plane crash victims, the show initially started off with 71 survivors, 14 speaking roles. All of the characters came from very different backgrounds, yet seem to be linked in one way or another. Duggan believes, “Some of the characters are funny,” such as Sawyer with his nicknames for other characters, and Hurley with his usual shenanigans and jolly composure.

What draws people to the show is the fact that the characters are all believable. The way they adapt to their surroundings and overcome their differences is so realistic that it is difficult to say goodbye to a character when the time comes. Whether the character is evil or good, a certain connection is felt because of the sheer realism in the acting.

As confusing as the show can get from time to time, Will Duggan believes, “I usually have a good idea what’s going on in the show and I come up with good ideas as to what will happen next.”

But Freshman Haley Blackwell has never been a fan, believing that the writers are pulling at strings after 5 whole seasons. “There’s just not that much to talk about in that long of a time period.”

This is a common concern as many question where the writers are going with the series when there are so many questions left to be answered. What started as mere survival turned into leadership disputes, then guns were introduced, then “The Others” came into the picture, and some believe things only went downhill from there.

But then there are fans such as Junior Sam Anderson, those who have stuck with LOST through thick and thin. “I keep watching the show because it’s so interesting, and it leaves you with a cliffhanger every week. It’s the only show I watch religiously.  I have to know what happens next and why the island is the way it is.”

The 6th season is off to a good start as already the question of the black smoke monster is being explained. Season 6 will consist of 18 episodes which promise to explain all the viewers’ questions.

Sam Anderson explains why millions of Americans have stayed with LOST through the years, and why they will watch as it concludes.  Put simply, “Nothing will be able to match up to LOST.”
