Signing Day

November 18th, Chapin SC, eight  Senior athletes signed their letters of intent to take their talents to the next level and join the 139 former Chapin Athletes over the last decade.

Gisele Hadwin signed her National Letter of Intent to play golf for Newberry College. Gisele is a 6 year Varsity Letterman, 3 year region 5 All-Region Team, SCJGA Individual Ranking, 27th Ranked Senior in South Carolina. “Gisele is a great athlete and not just a golfer. She has Successfully competed in tri-athalons as well as on the course. She has all the tools required to make this step to the next level in golf successful. I’m very proud of her growth during her years at Chapin and look forward to her success at Newberry moving forward,” said Coach Gregg Hamm.

Sophia Comose is signing her National Letter of Intent to play Lacrosse for Lander University. Comose is a 3 year Varsity Letter Winner, 2 time Upper state Champion, 1 time Upper state Champion, 2019 State Champion, Her 3 years stats are: 35 Games played, 7 Goals Scored, 16 shots on goal, 15 ground balls, 3 forced turnovers. “Sophia is such a quality lacrosse player and young lady. We are all very excited for her and look forward to watching her excel at the next level,” said Coach Jen Green.

Cade Austin signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at the University of South Carolina. Austin is a pitcher and plays first base. His stats 153 innings pitched, 151 strikeouts, 2.05 ERA, 19-4 record, and a .274 batting average.” Cade is one of the most dominate pitchers in the state. He commands 3 pitches with velocity in the low 90’s. Cade is also an excellent student,” said Coach McLeod.

Drew Calhoun signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Furman University. Calhoun is a catcher. “Drew is one of the best defensive catchers in the state. Drew blocks everything and has a strong accurate arm. Drew has a career batting average of .299 and is an excellent student athlete,” said Coach McLeod.

William Privette signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at the College of Charleston. Privette is a pitcher, he has 104 innings pitched, 126 strikeouts, 0.94 ERA, 19-1 record. “William commands three pitches and always gives you a quality start. William is one of the most intelligent players I have ever coached,” said Coach McLeod.

Chris Veach signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Presbyterian College. He plays shortstop and pitcher. “Chris is the smoothest shortstop in the state. He makes all the plays with a cannon for an arm. Chris also pitched 38 innings, had 45 strikeouts, 2.06 ERA, 4-3 record, Chris has a .331 batting average and excels in the classroom,” said Coach McLeod.

Lacey Ridgell with MCE Co-Op (Mid-Carolina Co-Op) was here for a special presentation and presented Josh Taylor and Garrett Huyck with Touchstone Energy North South Bowl trophies.
