Wrap Up 2012

Wrap up 2012.

The election is over but now it is time to watch what will happen. The next four years hold many things in store, but a lot of people are not sure exactly what they are yet.

As the election was neck and neck in the polls, no one could say for sure what was going to happen. After a nail-biting election night, President Obama was elected to a second term.

Many people have huge differences in opinion on this matter. Some stout Obama supporters are overjoyed that their president can save the nation and some believe that he is driving the country into the ground.  Very few times in this nation’s history have people been so divided on their opinions. That will undoubtedly be an important part of the president’s agenda this term.

Another thing that many people are worried about is the fact that yet again we have a Republican House, Democratic Senate and the same president. This makes people worry that we will have a repeat of the past term which was characterized by no growth at first and then slow growth.  Also, this term was unfortunately affected with inadequate compromise between the Democratic President and Republican house.

There is a chance that this term will be like the last, but it could go the other way.Clintonhad a similar first term marked by frustration with inter-government disagreement. In his second term, however, he really was able to sit down and bring both sides together to decide on what needed to be done. That term he had a great economic turnaround and a lot got done in general. There is some potential there for President Obama to do the same.

Under Obama’s Administration, the country’s national debt has increased by four trillion dollars. Many things have affected this, and it is not the president’s fault, as nothing like this can be blamed on any one person.  A lot of the problem goes back to disagreement within government.

The impending “cliff” or debt ceiling is also approaching at an uncomfortable pace. Last time the government squabbled right up until the last second before extending the ceiling.  Right now, the White House focus is to continue stimulating a slow growing economy, but with rising debt the economy must grow faster.

There are many advantages to a second term, the biggest one being it gives the incumbent a chance to really show theUnited Stateswhat their policies can do. No one can completely turn around a world power in four years. In many ways, stopping a president after one term can have a negative effect. It can be like starting from square one and that is not necessarily a good idea in such a delicate time, with the approaching debt ceiling and struggling economy.
