The 2019 Oscars were held on Sunday, February 24th at 8:00 PM EST. The Oscars ceremony was presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The ceremony honored the best films of 2018 by presenting Academy Awards, or Oscars, in 24 different categories.
The Oscars have several different categories of awards related to movies of the previous year. The winner for Actor In A Leading Role went to Rami Malek for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody as the late singer of the band Queen, Freddie Mercury. Nominees include Christian Bale as Dick Cheney in Vice, Bradley Cooper as Jackson Maine in A Star Is Born, Willem Dafoe in At Eternity’s Gate, and Viggo Mortensen in Green Book.
The Actress In A Leading Role title was taken home Olivia Colman for her performance of Queen Anne in The Favourite. Nominees include Yalitza Aparicio as Cleo in Roma, Lady Gaga as Ally in A Star Is Born, Glenn Close in The Wife, and Melissa McCarthy in Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
The Actor In a Supporting Role category was won by Mahershala Ali in his performance as Don Shirley in Green Book. Nominees include Adam Driver as Flip Zimmerman in BlacKkKlansman, Sam Elliot as Bobby in A Star Is Born, Richard E. Grant in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and Sam Rockwell in Vice.
Regina King won Actress In A Supporting Role with her performance of Sharon Rivers in If Beale Street Could Talk. Nominees include Amy Adams in Vice, Marina De Tavira in Roma, Emma Stone in The Favourite, and Rachel Weisz in The Favourite.
Green Book took home the title of Best Picture, produced by Jim Burke, Charles B. Wessler, Brian Currie, Peter Farrelly and Nick Vallelonga.
