When students drive off from school they are glad to be away from their parents for a few hours. Students dread leaving school as they think about the homework that was just assigned, the two hour basketball practice that starts at six and the essay due the next day. Wonder if you had all that to do and having to go home and take care of a kid, that’s what teachers with kids have to deal with every school day.

Some teachers are parents themselves so it just comes naturally, other teachers become parents but are new to the process of juggling parent and teacher position. Would that change the way they look at their students?

Administrator Akil Ross is now a happy dad. Mr. Ross just recently welcomed two month old baby girl, Alyssa Ross. Mr. Ross is the administrator for the ninth and eleventh graders at Chapin. His position as an administrator before baby Alyssa was the rules where the rules and he didn’t understand the passion and intensity parent that are in office feel about their child. Mr. Ross has always looked at his students in his office as his potinal child. How has baby Alyssa changed his job? “I understand parents being upset about their child” says Ross.” I have always done my duties as and administrator before and after Alyssa arrived” Ross says. When students enter his office the intensity of him looking at them as his own has intensifies since Alyssa has arrived. Mr. Ross has many duties at home now since baby Alyssa  but he is not going to let intramurals go, Ross says when Alyssa grows up she will be out on the field right next to her daddy. Baby Alyssa has inspired Mr. Ross to be a better administrator.

Expecting mother Mrs. Dooley has a different look on her job also. Mrs. Dooley the outgoing economics and government teacher has always had a good relationship with her students. “As I look at students now I treat them with the upmost respect because that is how I would want someone to treat my child “Dooley says children impact teachers in so many different ways. The child makes them look at students in a whole different way. What about the students?

Students with parents whose job is a teacher feels the weight of pressure on their shoulders. Junior Rachel Durant can relate to this as her mom is the Soar to Success teacher at Chapin Middle.”  I like her being a teacher because if I don’t understand something, my mom can re teach it to me” says Rachel. Rachel can also relate to the pressure that comes with parents bring teachers as her mom hold her to higher standards. Teachers are inspiring people who teach kids to do great things in life. Their children also inspire them to be better teachers.
