Chapin Community Service Day

While some people were still sleeping at 8:30 on Saturday April 9, members of the CHS Key Club were participating in eleventh annual Chapin Community Service Day.

“I think Chapin Community Service day is a great event and opportunity to help our town. Community service is important because it allows us to help those who can’t help themselves. I cherish the service I have done throughout high school and plan to do much more in college. It’s a way for us to give back to the community that gives so much to us,” said President Olivia Cooley.

Students met at Mrs. Margie Amick’s house on Wessinger Rd. to give her yard a little sprucing up.  Students were happy to help a elderly community member.

“We just worked in the yard. Cutting down a bush and raking leaves out of her yard. I think community service is great, I think more people should do it and help each other out,” said Junior Amanda Hernandez.

Individuals, churches, businesses and other organizations came together for the good of the community.  Chapin middle school’s FCA went to Generations and washed cars.

“I think it’s good that everyone comes together to help others in need, without expecting something in return,” said freshman Jake Berry.

Event organizers estimated that nearly a thousand people participated and volunteers were treated to free lunch at Crooked Creek Park after their projects were done.
