Shawn Haile is the 2018-2019 182lb weight class State Champion. Shawn received a technical fall in the quarter finals, a pin in the semi finals and beat his River Bluff opponent in a rematch from the previous weekend.

Shawn’s final record was  48-1. “I was just so overwhelmingly excited, it just felt so surreal and I was relieved and happy to know that hard work does pay off,” said Shawn.

“I’m super excited for him, he has worked his tail off all year long and it showed this weekend,” said Coach Flinchum. “Shawn exemplifies all the characteristics of a class act competitor and I am so happy for him! Shawn will be great at whatever he chooses to do in life” he said.

100 Wins for 3 Wrestlers

Three wrestlers at Chapin High have reached a milestone in their wrestling careers. Juniors Shawn Haile and Hunter Dixon and Mitchell O’Connor have all reached the 100 match level.

Shawn’s win came in the last minutes of a long-fought match in December.  Shawn was fastest wrestler at Chapin to reach 100 wins in his third year in high school.

“I could see myself wrestling in college,” said Shawn, when asked about his plans for the future and if that may include getting a full or partial scholarship for wrestling.–Ethan Bradley
